Canadian Government funds capacity building for ARC Foundation
The Canadian government, through the Department of Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE) under Minister Marci Ien, has awarded $339,162 to ARC Foundation (ARC) to build organizational capacity to further advance gender equality in Canada. This funding will provide ARC Foundation the opportunity to support 2SLGBTQ+ students across Canada into the future through SOGI 1 2 3. SOGI 1 2 3 equips K-12 teachers with the tools, resources and supports to create Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI)-inclusive schools for all students.
“We have seen an increase in demand for SOGI-inclusive teaching resources, as well as support for educators who are looking to create safer and more inclusive learning environments for their students,” shared ARC Foundation’s Executive Director, Reg Krake. “This funding from the federal government will allow us to do some of the internal work needed to ensure we can continue to provide these much-needed resources and supports through SOGI 1 2 3 and the SOGI Educator Network.”
The contribution will support the development of a new multi-year strategic plan, including a fundraising plan to support sustainable growth of SOGI 1 2 3; update recruitment, onboarding, and training practices to build an inclusive team culture and remove barriers for underrepresented groups; evaluate and optimize technology and tools; as well as address risk mitigation for scaling the geographical reach of SOGI 1 2 3. The funding will be provided through the Department for Women and Gender Equality over a two-and-a-half-year period, beginning immediately.
